The European Parliament has voted to strengthen the European Commission’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) proposal - landmark legislation to create a fairer digital market - which will give consumers a greater share of the benefits of digital services.

Member States have formalised their position on the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA), two landmark pieces of legislation to create a safer and more competitive digital space and to tackle the platform economy. The position by Member States carries both beneficial and negative points for consumers.

The European Parliament’s lead, Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) committee has reinforced proposed legislation (the Digital Markets Act) that would prevent tech giants from engaging in unfair behaviour in digital markets and so benefit consumers.
